After a slow period in terms of winning grants for SGCA it’s taken off! This award from the Garfield Weston Foundation is for core costs. The recent £105,000 from Clothworker’s Foundation and Albert Hunt Trust are for the refurbishment of Pendle and Weavers houses for adults with severe learning disabilities/difficulties. Not that far to go now with this parr of the fundraising. This work is carried out as an associate of Moneytree Fundraising and I have raised £536,000 in 4 years for SGCA.

We have been working with the Manningham Advice Project for around 3 years now. The Project provides advice on the benefits system and immigration to a largely south Asian community. We have worked to support hem in various ways: strategic development, fundraising, evaluation and development of the Self-Reliance programme. This year we have played an active role in helping them recruit a new Chief Executive Officer – a new role for the organisation. We were delighted to be part of the leaving do for the retiring Project Manager and the annual dinner. And that’s not all! We have just heard that our work in supporting their application to reaching Communities has resulted in a grant award of £113,000 over the next three years!

TSC has worked with Bierley Community Association over the past 9 months to progress an application to the Henry Smith Charity. After a positive meeting with their visitor and another long wait we have heard that BCS has been awarded £126,000 over three years! This is to support the work to sustain people and families in very difficult times – in an area where there are high levels of poverty and disadvantage – as well as people wanting to learn new skills and help each other out. We are very proud.

In the last few weeks we have been busy refining applications to the Albert hunt Trust and the Clothworker’s Foundation. This led to meetings with both funders and the results are a total of £105,000 in grants towards the refurbishment of Pendle and Weavers houses for adults with severe learning disabilities in Lancashire. This work is as an associate of Moneytree Fundraising. This brings the total raised for this inspiring community to well over half a million pounds now! Many thanks to these two funders.

We have supported OAOP to access funding to identify older men who are isolated and lonely in the Otley area. This is through a a Community Transport Association funding programme. Transport will be used to bring men together and then take them to a range of places and events that the individuals and the group choose. This project is one which John and Rachel have been working on with OAOP to both identify gaps in community support and then find ways to provide solutions.

John has supported the charity running the Todmorden Hippodrome to win a grant of over £800,000 from the Todmorden Town Bid programme initiated by central government. The funds will be to restructure and rebuild much of the inside of the premises to include new rehearsal and performance spaces. new community workshop room and storage spaces. Interestingly, the information for the application was based on a previous significant application – which was unsuccessful! They put on such good performances at the Hippodrome – and do great work with the children’s and young people’s theatre groups.

John has been supporting the Director and trustees at Home-Start Kirklees to develop their new 5 year plan – a project that has taken 6 months. It has involved extensive internal and external consultations. A message from the Director and trustees says: “On behalf of Home-Start Kirklees we wanted to thank you for your support and guidance over the last 6 months in helping us to develop a new strategic plan which will see us through the next 5 years. Your expertise has been most welcome and the experience working alongside you has been very positive. The board approved the strategic plan yesterday.” This work was supported by the Lloyds Bank Foundation Enhance programme – this enables charities to develop their functioning in a range of ways.

In December TSC received an urgent call from the Life Centre, a community association and centre at the heart of the Bierley estate in Bradford. Due to staff sickness and resignations they were in sore need of immediate fundraising expertise. The Life Centre has literally been a life line for this community through the pandemic, providing practical support, activities and social contact for hundreds of local residents. The Centre works a lot with different generations from pre-school through to older people. We are pleased to be working with such a great cause and with committed people. Watch this space!

TSC has supported ecoACTIVE (working in hackney and Newham) in developing a case for support and a presentation to the Hiscox Foundation. This was successful and has resulted in a £15,000 grant towards core costs – the nirvana for fundraising in that it contributes to the bottom line. EcoACTIVE was approached by one of their trustees who is leading on environmental issues for Hiscox. There is scope here for collaborating with Hiscox on an environmental journey rather than this being a one off. We’re delighted!
